Es Vedra – The Magical Energy You Can Find In Ibiza

Did you know that Ibiza isn’t just about nightclubs and dancing the night away? While Ibiza is a magical place in its own right, there are certain points that are just extra special.

Places you can enjoy outdoor activities in Mallorca that spark that joy and peace inside you, leaving a truly lasting impression for years to come. Es Vedra is one of those magical places on the island. But what is it about Es Vedra that makes it such an enchanting place, and what is it that draws so many people to it every day? Discovering these hidden gems is part of the adventure in Mallorca, where the landscape and the sea invite you to explore beyond the ordinary.

What Is Es Vedra?

Es Vedra is a quiet, uninhabited island just off the west coast of Ibiza. The island is almost entirely made of limestone, with a high peak that reaches 400 meters above sea level. The island peak rises from the sea rather majestically, stamping its presence on the horizon for miles around.

People aren’t generally allowed on the island, as it forms part of the Cala d’Hort Natural Reserve, which means it’s absolutely full of wildlife. From brightly colours Ibiza wall lizards to flocks of endangered gulls and falcons – it’s even home to 166 rare species of plants that are flourishing without human intervention.

It’s a stunning formation to look at at any time, but it’s most beautiful during sunset. As the sun sets behind the big imposing rock, you get hit with a sense of awe and joy. There are numerous viewing spots along the west coast where you can catch a glimpse of the beautiful island, or if you want a closer look you can book onto one of the many Ibiza cruises that give tours of the coast and goes around the island’s edge. There’s a fantastic list of ways you can see Es Vedra here.

The Tales Of Es Vedra

Es Verda has also been the source of a lot of Island myths and legends. Some people have claimed they’ve seen UFOs soaring high above, leaving come tails in the sky. Local old wive’s tails say that it’s the site of the lost city of Atlantis, with Es Vedra serving as the marker stone to find it by. If you were to follow it down, then eventually you would find the long-lost city submerged below.

Others still say they’ve heard siren calls from the shores, beckoning them into the seas at sunset. Some see it as the home of the Tanit, the goddess of fertility and Ibiza’s patroness. And many mystics have said that it has healing powers that transcend the mortal realm. Whatever you believe is true, standing on the shore looking out at the rock formation as the sun goes down, it’s not difficult to see why it’s inspired so many people over the years.

The Perfect Meditation Spot

It’s difficult to describe the feeling you get when you first see Es Vedra looming in the distance. It just takes your breath away. And even though science says the island is nothing more than a remarkable limestone formation, it’s hard to believe that. The island transmits a feeling of peace, joy and serenity that’s impossible to ignore, which is just one of the reasons it’s a popular gathering spot for meditation. Many yoga classes are held with a view of the island as a backdrop, as well as guided meditations and mindfulness practice.  It’s also known to be the third most magnetic point on earth (despite not having any magnetic materials in the earth), which might explain the inexplicable draw it holds over so many people.
